Crib to Bench Conversion
I used the old stiles for the seating and only added some extra wood for stability. Because it had been shellacked, I was able to sand it down and re-shellac the whole bed and preserve the original art.
Bed to Bench Conversion
This antique bed was converted to a bench with internal storage. I was able to use the original rails for most of the seat but cutting splines. A piece of HDF for the storage bottom and a few internal structural ribs were the only new wood needed. I repaired damage to the carved top of the headboard with a piece of poplar and wish I had taken a before picture! Some Howard’s Restore-A-Finish and Wax-N-Feed brought it all back to life.
